Some of my present and past students' awards, honors and placementGideon Alon - As a senior BM student, Gidi was invited to Porto, Portugal in August, 2009 as a semi-finalist in the International Clarinet Association's Young Artist Competition. In January of 2010 Gidi won the IU Clarinet Department's Concerto Competition. Michal Beit-Halachmi - Israeli born clarinetist who has played with the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony, Israel Chamber Orchestra and the Tamaris Wind Quintet. Played debut recital in Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall in March, 2003. Julian Bliss - International soloist and chamber musician from the UK. Recently (2008) released a solo/duet CD with Sabine Meyer for EMI. He did a month-long tour of the US giving recitals and master classes in January, 2010 demonstrating the new Bliss Clarinets from Leblanc. Jihoon Chang – Clarinetist, US Marine Band, Washington, DC Yi-Chun (Irene) Chen – As a 2nd year MM student, Irene was invited to Porto, Portugal in August, 2009 as a semi-finalist in the International Clarinet Association's Young Artist Competition. She made the finals of that competition and was awarded a 2nd prize. Nicolas Del Grazia – Professor of Clarinet, Dennison University Jennifer Everhart – Semi-Finalists in the WAMSO Competition, Minneapolis, MN, January 2004. Clarinetist, US Army Field Band, Washington, DC Norman Foster – 2nd and Eb Clarinet, Honolulu Symphony Michael Galvan – Professor of Clarinet at Ithaca College, he was elected President to the International Clarinet Association (4,000 members) for 2004-06 Deborah Hanson-Gerber- – Clarinetist, US Marine Band, Washington, DC Monica Kaenzig – 2nd and Eb Clarinet, Los Angeles
Philharmonic, Professor of Clarinet, William Kelly – Graduated with a Performer Diploma at IU in Spring, 2009 and won a position in the US Navy Band in Washington, DC, starting that summer. Shannon Kiewitt – After graduating IU with a BM and MM she became a member of the US Army Field Band, Washington, DC. Shannon was a Semi-Finalist in the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition in Salt Lake City, 2003. She is joining the clarinet section of the US Marine Band in Washington, DC in August, 2010 after winning an audition against 100 clarinetists in January of 2010 while 38 weeks pregnant! Leigh Lafosse – Clarinetist, US Army Band (Pershing’s Own), Washington, D.C. (starting June, ’07) Greta Loggins – Clarinetist, US Navy Band, Washington, DC Jorge Montilla – Associate Principal Clarinetist of the Simon Bolivar Orchestra (Caracas, Venezuela), Clarinet Professor at Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales. Former Assistant Professor of Clarinet at Arizona State University. Leslie Moreau – Third Place winner in the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition in Salt Lake City. Chiao-hui Yang – Clarinet Department Concerto Competition winner, January 2003. In Fall, 2003 she won the Associate Principal Clarinet position with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra Yuen-Suo Yang – Winner if the Jacobs School of Music Woodwind Department Concerto Competition for school year 2007-2008.
